PEACEFUL FUTURE WITHOUT TERRORISM
In this fast developing world, a person does not have his own peace of mind; how is he supposed to contribute to the world peace? It is necessary to first have peace inside yourself and your home. This will naturally allow you to be serene and peaceful in the outside world too. Peace is something everyone wants, but no one exactly knows how to achieve it. No person on this earth knows the future. Not a single person knows how this world will come to an end. Yet the current situation gives us no compelling proof of a bright future. With the majority of people stressing on environmental problems, they tend to forget many matters of immediate concern. One of the many threats to the earth is violence through terrorism.
As said by Kofi Annan –“There is no trust more sacred than the one the world holds with children. There is no duty more important than ensuring that their rights are respected, that their welfare is protected, that their lives are free from fear and want and that they grow up in peace”.
Imagine a clear blue, sunlit morning; the most beautiful day you can recall. Imagine waking up from an amazing dream of a clear horizon. Imagine putting on your new fresh suit, to start your new job. Imagine having that extra hop in your step as you leave your front door, your mind anxiously awaiting the adventure of a new beginning to an amazing day. Then, imagine not getting to where you needed to be. Not because you fell victim to a traffic jam or missed the bus, but because you were a victim of a terrorist act – an innocent victim, whose life was cut short by terrorism. Shattered dreams and lives are just some of the many effects that terrorism can bring about.
Is war on terrorism bringing peace to the world? In the world of terrorism it takes only one well-placed bomb to create new fears and reactions .Why do people resort to such violent acts as bombing, assassinations, and hi-jacking? How do individuals and organizations justify these acts of terror? These acts can easily be labeled as terrorist actions. Terrorism is a growing international problem. In the recent years, new terrorist groups and organizations have been forming at an alarming rate. Terrorism is the use or threat of violence to create fear and alarm.
For me, the question is, How to Stop Terrorism? Its easy. We should stop terrorism first of all by stopping our own terrorism! We cannot fight terrorism by becoming terrorists. We cannot end terrorism by using the methods of terrorism to bomb and kill terrorists. To occupy peace, end world hunger immediately, fund jobs, education and healthcare at home and abroad, clean up the environment and teach nonviolence to everyone around the world, beginning at home and in every school classroom. Renounce every trace of violence in your heart and your life. Adopt the wisdom and practice of active nonviolence, as Gandhi and Dr. King taught. Beg the God of peace for the gift of peace. Join your local peace and justice group. Stand up publicly for an end to war. Let your life be disrupted, and take a new, nonviolent risk for disarmament. Create new cells of active nonviolence. Embrace the religious roots of nonviolence. Study and teach the wisdom of nonviolence. Resist your local military and government violence and demand peace, justice, and disarmament for the whole world, now. Announce the vision of a new nonviolent world, a disarmed world, a world without war, poverty, injustice or nuclear weapons.
Terrorism is a curse. War on terror has increased the terrorism all over the world. The key to have a peaceful world and surroundings is to understand the following behaviors:
Understanding: Once people start understanding each other, they would begin developing high viewpoints about the others. Respect and non-interference usually come automatically through understanding.
Respect: Respecting other people includes respecting their nature and culture too. The popular belief says if you respect others, others will respect you back. Being patient and understanding every situation in life are the main aspects you should consider to develop maturity in your behavior. This maturity will definitely bring self-respect and will make you value other individuals too.
Non-aggression: Keeping your attitude calm and peaceful helps, you maintain that composure which turns your decision making into extremely non-aggressive. It is crystal clear that harsh speech and insulting words always bring quarrels and conflicts. To reduce such conditions, people should avoid anger and hatred towards other religions, cultures, civilizations, states and countries.
Non-interference: “Mind your own business” just suits this topic. It does not mean that you should not help others in their difficulties and keep yourself tied to your environment. Everybody should mix up with the world, but at the same time, it is vital not to interfere into others’ work, cultural habits, religious matters, properties and daily life.
Equality: This is the most important thing to understand. Being polite and behaving well with others never hurts. God is one and all religions preach the same.
